Floor Compatibility Guide — Which Floors Work with Gap Tap?

Floor Compatibility Guide

Gap Tap works on floating click-lock floors where the planks can shift slightly. Here's how to check if your floor is compatible.

Works Great On

Laminate Flooring

Floating click-lock laminate. The smooth surface creates a perfect suction seal.

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP)

Floating vinyl plank floors. Modern LVP provides excellent grip for the suction cup.

Engineered Hardwood

Floating (not nailed/glued) engineered hardwood installations.

Textured Surfaces

Use the included silicone grip pad for textured or grooved floors.

Does NOT Work On

Nailed or Glued Hardwood

Permanently fixed floors cannot be shifted. Gap Tap requires floating installations.

Glued Vinyl / Sheet Vinyl

Vinyl adhered to the subfloor cannot be repositioned.

Tile, Stone, or Brick

Grouted installations cannot be moved without damage.

Planks Under 5.25" Wide

The suction cup requires at least 5.25 inches of plank width for a secure grip.

Quick Compatibility Test

Not sure if your floor is floating? Try this:

  1. Find a plank near a wall or at the edge of a room.
  2. Press on it firmly and try to shift it slightly side to side.
  3. If it moves even a little, it's a floating floor and Gap Tap will work.

Tips for Maximum Suction

  1. Clean the surface — wipe with a damp cloth and dry completely.
  2. Remove all debris — dust or particles break the seal.
  3. Use the silicone pad — for textured/grooved floors, place the glossy side face-down.
  4. Apply grease — for matte or porous surfaces, use the included silicone grease around the suction cup edge.

Pro Tip: The smoother and cleaner the surface, the better Gap Tap performs. When in doubt, test a small area first.
