Safety Tips
Gap Tap is designed to be safe and easy to use. Follow these guidelines to protect yourself and your floors.
Always Wear Protection
Wear safety glasses and gloves when using Gap Tap. Keep fingers and body parts clear of the striking area at all times.
Safe Usage Guidelines
Use the included mallet only
The non-scratch rubber mallet is sized and weighted for Gap Tap. Using a metal hammer or heavier tool can damage the tapping block, your floor, or cause injury from excessive force.
Strike the designated area
Only strike the tapping block — never hit the suction cup or the floor directly. The tapping block is designed to absorb and redirect force laterally into the plank.
Keep hands clear
Once the suction cup is locked, step back and use the mallet with a comfortable grip. Don't hold the suction cup body while tapping.
Work on stable surfaces
Make sure the floor area is dry and free of tripping hazards. Kneel on a pad or towel for comfort during extended use.
Don't force stuck planks
If a plank doesn't move after several firm taps, stop. The plank may be obstructed by furniture, a wall, or debris in the joint. Identify and clear the obstruction before continuing.
Protecting Your Floors
- Test first — always test Gap Tap on an inconspicuous area before working on visible sections.
- Check compatibility — verify your floor type in our compatibility guide before use.
- Use moderate force — start with light taps and increase force gradually. You need less force than you think.
- Use the silicone pad — on textured floors, the pad protects the surface and improves grip.
Pro Tip: Start with smaller, easier gaps to build confidence with the tool before tackling larger or more visible gaps.
